The SIMPOP instantiated models enable simulation of a variety of spatio-temporal configurations of systems of cities :

  • Sharing the same generic properties

  • But with distinctive morphogenetic rules (continuous emergence versus disrupted)

  • Different orders of magnitude (country size, demographic and economic growth rates)

  • Different timings in historical evolution (period of urban transition)

To meet the four main types of evolutionary paths that are encountered in the world (old urban systems with continuous evolution, as Europe; old urban systems with disruption, as India; new urban systems of the developed (USA) and developing world (South Africa)), we have defined, for each of them, different schemes of map construction, specific contextual parameters and rules. Main results are presented through simulations analysis or publications.
