Co-evolution of  transportation networks and urban systems  


SimpopNet [Scmitt 2014] is an ABM  that focuses on the relations between transportation systems evolution and urban systems evolution.

SimpopNet purpose is to examine some hypothesis regarding the feedback loop between the size and the accessibility of a city (at a microscopic level) and to observe the consequences of this feedback simulation on the whole system (macroscopic level).

Regarding the network structure, the model aims to reproduce the consequence of  the hierarchical diffusion of transportation innovation along the territory (each innovation increasing the speed of transportation), as a progressive shunt of small cities.

Regarding the system of cities, the model aims to exhibit the relation between the accessibility of a city and its size, whereas the progressive hierarchisation of the system is expected at the macroscopic level.
